I spent the weekend in the very north of Norway. On Saturday, I participated in Harstad Orbit Battle in Harstad, and on Sunday I taught a workshop in Tromsø.
The workshop was held at Dance Lab, the largest dance studio in Troms county. The atmosphere there is so warm and welcoming, and it was truly a pleasure to teach. I offered both a waacking class and a small choreography class based on my own concept, “Sassy & Savage.” Sharing the waacking style with different parts of this long country of ours is a true joy.
It was the middle of ski season with perfect snow conditions, so quite amusingly, there were a number of cancellations among those who had signed up. When the mountains call, it’s not always easy to choose the dance studio! Still, students from several cities showed up. One student even flew all the way from Alta to attend. She had moved to Norway from Japan, where she had been teaching waacking herself. It was incredibly rewarding to connect with a new waacking soul here in Norway.
The weekend reminded me how strong and dedicated the northern dance community is – and how far people are truly willing to travel to grow and connect through dance.
