Dancing at Roskilde, Denmark

Some festivals barely need an introduction.
Roskilde Festival in Denmark is one of the largest and most iconic music festivals in the Nordic region – and it is one of those festivals I have heard about for as long as I can remember. Every year, huge crowds from Scandinavia and around the world come together for several days of music, art, camping and that very particular Roskilde atmosphere.
This time, I got to experience it from the stage.
I travelled to Denmark as choreographer and dancer for Sa_G, and it was incredibly exciting to bring our show to a festival of this scale.
One thing I especially noticed was just how many Norwegians had made their way to Roskilde. From the stage, we could see Norwegian flags in the crowd, and there is always something special about performing in another country and suddenly seeing your own flag being held up in front of you.
A little piece of home – in the middle of Denmark.
And some of the fans had really come prepared.
Among the Sa_G fans was a huge sign saying:
“HVOR ER BRYNA SJEF?” (Where's your brows, boss?)
For anyone unfamiliar with the reference, the phrase is deliberately written in a slang-like style and plays on part of Sa_G's visual identity and humour. She intentionally has no eyebrows – something she also raps about in her music.
So standing on stage at Roskilde and suddenly spotting a giant “Hvor er bryna sjef?” sign in the crowd was pretty amazing.
Those are exactly the little moments I love about performing live. A show is of course about the choreography, the music and everything we have prepared beforehand – but the connection with the people in front of the stage is what makes every performance different.
Roskilde was huge, chaotic, international and full of energy – and so much fun to experience from the stage.
